For all you faithful readers, you know from some of my posts that I enjoy the sports. My sports interests are as varied and diverse as my movie interests – I follow professional football (NFL) most closely, but as indicated in a previous post, I also enjoy the Olympics, and eventually I get into the NCAA basketball coverage as well. This summer, I got to go to my first live MLB baseball game. It was at Rogers Centre in Toronto where my sister and I watched the Blue Jays defeat the Athletics 10-4 and we had a blast! Are you ready for some football?!!!
For those of you who know me a little, you know that in addition to watching movies, I’m also a die-hard football fan. The American NFL season kicks off tonight with a game between the Superbowl champion New York Giants and the ailing Dallas Cowboys. While this season opener will likely play out to be a little one-sided, I’ve decided to assemble a team of fantasy football picks from football-related films that could totally go all the way to the Superbowl. For those of you who aren’t familiar with “fantasy football”, it’s where fans choose their favourite players from any team across the league to assemble a “fantasy” or dream team to compete against other players’ fantasy line-ups. Seeing as 45 players can be active on an NFL team on any given week, I decided to narrow my team down to just the 11 offensive players (with some backups). Continue reading
Like most of the world these days, I’m glued to my various screens for coverage of the 2012 London Olympics. I love the spectacle, the competition, the heartbreak, the implausible victories, the personal triumphs, and all the pomp and ceremony. Since I can never get enough Olympic drama, I decided to write about a few of my favourite Olympic-themed films (in no particular order). When I started this post I fully intended to include movies involving Winter Games sports as well, but the list was just too long… thought I’d dangle that carrot so you’ll keep reading until 2014… but for now, let’s stick to all things Summer Games.
